Commercial Work

This is a selection of my work for commercial clients, including Websites, Print Design and the odd Kiosk System. Please take a look around.

Daisy Communications

Daisy PLC is one of the largest independent communications providers in the UK. In 2005 it was even the fastest growing company in the UK, with a sales growth of 457% according to the Tech Track 100 league table.

I was honored to work with them in the production of advertising and print literature, along with their web presence. I have also worked alongside their in-house software developers on user interfaces and integration of back office systems with customer facing web sites.

HP Business Partner Promotion

HP Business Partner Metrologie comissioned a marketing agency I worked for to promote their services. I produced a physical mail shot and accompanying Flash micro-site for the campaign. The focus was on enterprise server hardware, so I put together the image opposite using stock pohotography of office blocks and the kind of products in question. While I’ve never specialised in Flash development, it was great to have the opportunity to learn a few things.

Hospital Information Kiosks

I collaborated with a software developer and a copy-writer to deliver an Information Kiosk system for Withington Community Hospital in Manchester. We worked closely with their staff to ascertain the information they needed to communicate to their visitors, then installed a network of touch screen PCs around the premises, connected to a server that provided them with easily updatable content and an internet connection for viewing approved websites.

I was responsible for all design work and the Content Management System. Simplicity and ease of use was the primary concern here, as the last thing you want when you’re ill is a thousand confusing menus to navigate.

NHS Secondary Care Website

NHSI worked with the NHS’s North Manchester Practice Based Commissioning team to produce this site. It’s a valuable resource for doctors wanting to find specialist medical services for their patients.

We agreed on a data structure, I built a customised Joomla content management system and populated it with their supplied data. I taught them how to update it with in-person training and screencasts and they now have a lot of much more informed doctors in their area!

Sprinters London

I worked with a well respected London print house to update their web presence. The site’s design is focussed on promoting their green credentials, which gave me the chance to use some photos i’d taken in my garden recently!

The site’s fully content-managed using Joomla and coded with Search Engine Optimisation in mind. This has allowed them to claim their rightful place at the top of Google for a “Sprinters London” search. Now they just need to start link building for London Printers and they’ll be away!

Anxiety UK Print Literature

Anxiety UK are a national charity dedicated to helping people overcome phobias and anxiety disorders. I help them out by producing much of their print literature, including reports, flyers and information booklets.  I also re-designed their logo (opposite), when they changed their name from The National Phobics Society. Please click through to see some more examples of work I’ve produced for them.

Nomad Radio

A Manchester based music collective wanted a site for their Podcasts. I made them one using the Open Source Wordpress CMS, in collaboration with an excellent Flash developer called Zen. The site uses lots of JQuery Ajax functions (Javascript) and has plenty of social media integration.

I also set up and configured a VPS for it to be hosted on, running an Ubuntu based LAMP stack.

I’m currently working on version 2 of this site for the client, which will make use of Facebook Connect amongst other things.
